Running With Giants

Giant Dreams, Giant Visions, and Giant Aspirations

Have you ever felt like a dream was too big, or your visions for your life were way out there?  Sometimes God has plans for us to walk with the giants.  Let’s dive in and take a look.

We start off in 1 Samuel 16, you see the Lord did not want Saul to be king over Israel any longer and had instructed Samuel to go see Jesse of Bethlehem and chose one of his sons to be the future king.  So Samuel did as the Lord said and went to Bethlehem.  While there Samuel met with Jesse and his sons.  Samuel was presented by all 7 and was sure that one of his 7 sons he met would be the one the Lord would choose, but he couldn’t be more wrong.  When Jesse had shown his 7 sons that he thought were worthy of the calling, Samuel had said, “Are these all your sons?”

And Jesse answered, “No, there still is my youngest and he is tending sheep.”

Samuel said, “Send for him and I will sit and wait until he gets here.”  When his son arrived he was glowing with health and had a fine appearance.

1 Samuel 16:12-23  “…Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”

13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.  Around this time

14 Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil[a] spirit from the Lord tormented him.

15 Saul’s attendants said to him, “See, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you. 16 Let our lord command his servants here to search for someone who can play the lyre. He will play when the evil spirit from God comes on you, and you will feel better.”

17 So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me.”

18 One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.”

19 Then Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.” 20 So Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them with his son David to Saul.

21 David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armor-bearers. 22 Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Allow David to remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”

23 Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.”

Sometimes the Lord wants to use those lowly people, those non-successful people, those troublemakers, sinners, and bottom dwellers because despite all the labels and or superficial, outward appearances the Lord sees the heart of the person.  He sees the person for who they are or who they will be.  Don’t let anyone tell you “you can’t” or “you’re nothing” especially our earthly parents.  Too many times our parents put us down, tell us we are worthless, that we will never amount to anything.  Well God sees it differently.  God wants to use the foolish things in the world’s eyes to do great things for him.

1 Corinthians 1:27 “But God uses the foolish things of the world to shame the wise God chose the week things of the world to shame the strong.”

No matter where the world has you or what it has you doing, God has huge plans for you and will use you in a mighty way, regardless of what anyone says about it.  We are children of God.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”

The Lord at this time removed his spirit from Saul and placed tormenting spirits on him that would cause depression and fear.  The only thing that would calm him was soft music from the harp.  So a servant said he knew this guy Jesse and he had a son who could play the harp.  Well, guess who this was?  David!  So Saul summoned David the new, anointed, future king to come to play the harp.  Saul could then be soothed while the tormenting feelings would come on him.  Now that’s just like God to do this, to show He is in complete control, He was allowing Saul to be tormented and using his new appointee to soothe him, all while learning the ins and outs of how to be a king.  Saul hired David to be by his side all while not even knowing that David would be the future king.

Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we can ask or imagine according to the power that is within us.”

God will place us where He wants us, when He wants us, and how He wants us in his perfect timing.

Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight our battles and we don’t have to do anything but remain still”

David will wait 22 years before he becomes king.  Just because God hasn’t answered us when we want it, we have to allow God to work for us.  He has a grand plan for our lives and we must be patient so we can see His plan to come to fruition.  Sometimes we want, what we want.  We live in a now society, faster, bigger, better and more.  I need it now, order it online, charge it.  Where’s our patience?  We are Christians who trust in an all-powerful God who knows exactly what we want and need and exactly how He’s going to get it for us.  Pay no mind to the world because that is a false reality.  You merely take away the world’s money and I can assure you, all hope is gone, that is for the people of the world.  What I’m saying is that God gives His dreams and visions and we must persevere and endure.

Philippians 1:6 “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.”

Things we need to do to run with the Giants:

  1. We need to step into God’s calling
  2. We need to take the initiative.  Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not harm you to give you hope and a future”
  3. We are called to be leaders and equip the body.  Ephesians 4:12 “To equip His people for work or service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.”
  4. Declare God’s promises, not our problems, let’s stop focusing on the problems and focus on the promise.
  5. Declare who we are in Christ.  Romans 8:31-39 We are more than conquerors.  If God is for us, who then can be against us?
  6. When God calls you to do something you do it, for you don’t know how He works or what Plans He has.  We must trust and have faith in them.

So just as David the small, nobody, sheep-herder who took out the mighty Goliath with just a sling and a stone, who was appointed to be king and reign over Israel, and who was the only one who could play music to soothe the tormenting spirits against King Saul.

So let us look at our Giants and run with them, with the power of God at our feet paving the way because we too, like David, are more than conquerors.  We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength, accordingly and abundantly above all we can ask or do.

Now go…run with your Giants!
