Is There Enough Evidence To Convict?
This Heading is a powerful and thought-provoking Bible study topic:
“You are on Trial: Is There Enough Evidence To Convict You Of Being A Christian?”
This study challenges believers to examine their lives and measure their faithfulness by biblical standards, asking: Would your life provide enough evidence that you are a follower of Jesus Christ, or would you be mistaken for just another person in the world?
Let me ask!
If Christianity were a crime, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
We read in 2 Corinthians 13:5 and it says;
“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed you fail to meet the test!”
Let us look over some of the evidence the prosecution would be looking at.
Evidence #1: Love for God and Others
John 13:35
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
1 John 4:20
“If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar…”
So, I ask you these questions:
Is your love for others radical and Christ-like?
Can others see your love in your actions, or is it just words?
Evidence #2: Separation from the World
Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
James 4:4
“Friendship with the world is enmity with God.”
1 Peter 2:11
“I urge you…to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.”
So again, I ask:
Do your values, speech, and decisions reflect God’s kingdom or the world’s culture?
Would someone notice a difference between your lifestyle and that of a non-believer?
Evidence #3: Bearing Fruit
Matthew 7:16-20
“You will recognize them by their fruits…”
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”
John 15:5
“Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit…”
Ask yourself these questions
Are the fruits of the Spirit growing in your life?
Would a “witness” be able to testify about seeing your good works?
Evidence #4: Boldness in Faith
Acts 4:13
“When they saw the boldness of Peter and John… they recognized that they had been with Jesus.”
Matthew 10:32-33
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father…”
Romans 1:16
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel…”
Ask yourself
Do people know you’re a Christian, or do you hide it?
Have you shared your testimony or the gospel with others recently?
Evidence #5: Obedience to God’s Word
James 1:22
“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only…”
John 14:15
“If you love me, keep my commandments.”
1 John 2:3-6
“We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands…”
Ask yourself this
Is your life marked by obedience to Christ or selective submission?
Would someone see God’s Word shaping your choices?
Thought Provoking Real-Life Contrast: Jesus & the Disciples vs. Blending In
Jesus was falsely accused, arrested, and crucified because His life and message disrupted the world’s system (John 15:18-19).
The Disciples were arrested, beaten, and killed because they boldly lived out and preached the gospel.
Many Christians today blend in, afraid of standing out.
Final questions
Are you living a life that threatens darkness or one that goes unnoticed?
Would the world even need to put you on trial?
Here is a call to Reflection & Action:
Have a moment of quiet or prayer where you take a moment to examine yourself:
Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!”
Challenge:
This week, live in a way that produces undeniable evidence of your faith in word, action, and love.

Let us keep looking into this very though provoking topic
You Are on Trial: Is There Enough Evidence to Convict You of Being a Christian?
“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.”
— 2 Corinthians 13:5
Imagine standing before a court, not for a crime but for your faith. The judge leans forward and asks, “Is there enough evidence to convict this person of being a follower of Jesus Christ?”
What would the witnesses say? What would your lifestyle, your speech, your priorities, and your relationships reveal?
This post isn’t meant to accuse; it’s meant to challenge and stir your heart. Let’s explore what true Christianity looks like, and ask ourselves: Would our lives stand as evidence of our faith?
Love is not optional for the believer, it’s the first and loudest piece of evidence. Do you consistently show love, even when it’s inconvenient, uncomfortable, or undeserved?
If someone examined your life, would they see sacrificial, Christlike love?
A true Christian life doesn’t blend into the world. It shines, convicts, and stands out. Sadly, many who claim Christ live indistinguishably from the culture around them.
Does your entertainment, your language, your priorities reflect the holiness of God—or the values of the world?
Your fruit speaks louder than your church attendance or your social media verses. It’s not about perfection—but about transformation. Are the fruits of the Spirit growing and maturing in your life?
Would someone close to you say they can see spiritual growth over time?
The early Christians were arrested, beaten, and killed, not because they blended in, but because they were bold in their witness. They didn’t hide their faith, they lived it out publicly.
Are you known as a Christian in your workplace, neighborhood, or friend group? Or do you keep your faith in the shadows?
True disciples don’t just know the Bible, they obey it. Obedience isn’t about legalism; it’s about love. Jesus said the greatest evidence of love for Him is obedience.
Would your decisions, public and private, prove that you walk in God’s Word?
Jesus and the Disciples: The Ultimate Examples
Jesus was persecuted because He spoke truth. The disciples were arrested and even martyred because their lives were undeniable proof of their allegiance to Christ.
They were so different from the world, so bold in their faith, that they were considered dangerous by the powers of the day.
What about us?
Final Reflection: What Would the Evidence Say?
Let’s bring it full circle.
If your life was put on trial today:
- Would there be enough love to convict you?
- Enough holiness to set you apart?
- Enough fruit to show growth?
- Enough boldness to testify of Jesus?
- Enough obedience to prove your allegiance?
“Search me, O God, and know my heart… See if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23-24
Challenge for the Week:
Live like someone who would be found guilty of following Jesus.
Here’s a practical suggestion:
Each day, identify one way you can reflect Christ visibly.
Whether it’s through kindness, truth-telling, generosity, or gospel-sharing, let your life be evidence.
Let’s not be undercover Christians. Let’s be the kind of disciples whose lives demand an explanation.
I am providing some Practical Steps to Build “Evidence”
- Spend daily time in prayer and the Word.
- Obey what you read—even when it’s hard.
- Speak about Jesus in everyday conversations.
- Serve your neighbors and enemies in love.
- Live differently from the world in your values, speech, and priorities.
- Stand firm when challenged for your beliefs.
This study aims to challenge believers not just to profess Christ but to live in a way that unmistakably identifies them as His followers. It combines scripture, reflection, real-life application, and questions. My prayer is that you would retain the scriptures and the truths revealed within these pages and live out the Word of God one day at a time.
