Live by Spiritual Power

Ephesians 5:15-20

15 “Be careful how you live, not as fools, but as those who are wise.”

Pay attention to what is going on in the world, especially around you.  We are to walk as children of light, wise and full of God’s direction.  If we are doing something, whatever that may be, then we must discern the situation.  Is this thing I’m doing or are these people I’m hanging around Christians?  If they are not or if it is not, then you ask yourself why does the Lord have me here?  Or you say, “Maybe the Lord doesn’t want me here.”  Our job as Christians is to plant seeds and seize every opportunity to win souls for the Kingdom of God.  We can become wise.  How?  By reading the Word of God and letting it speak to us.  It will guide you and direct you.  Also, be in prayer, put your petition into the Lord and see Him show up.  Stay on His path, the one He lays out for you and stay in your Word.

16 “Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days.”

So wherever you find yourself, look at your surroundings, be aware of where you are and ask yourself if you are making or taking the opportunity to be a light.  Are you seizing the moment and making the most of the situation and impacting people?  Impact is what we need to have on our world and on the people of it.  So, make the most of every opportunity and be a light, be wise.  Ask yourself, what would Jesus do?

17 “Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants us to do.”

Wherever you find yourself, whatever you’re doing, whatever road you’re traveling, say to yourself, “What does the Lord want me to do?”  Does He want us to wake up, rush to get ready for our fleshly job, rush to get our children ready for school, get busy going about our day, maybe getting frustrated or getting bothered by a co-worker, or not wanting to be there at all?  Then you get off, you have to spend some “me time,” you go to the gym, meanwhile your spouse gets off work, and she or he wants “me time,” they rush to get the kids, then there’s dinner.  That is a crazy life.  Oh yeah, then there are sports for the kids, we have to go and get them.  After all that, you’re finally home to eat and relax to get ready for the next day, over and over, round and round we go.

So, living a lifestyle like this is of the world.  What would the Lord have me do?  Do you have time to selflessly think of other’s needs?  This is exactly what the Lord is talking about in these first few scriptures.  Do good, walk as children of light, make the most of every opportunity and look at every situation as what would the Lord have me do?

18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He will guide you today, just “Be still and know that I am God,” says the Lord.
