Does Our Life Reflect That of a Chosen One?

Think about that, in Matthew 22:14 it says “many are called and few are chosen.”  Well then, what do you think separates the two?  Let’s dive deep and do some digging.  In Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

Let’s stop right there for a moment.  Jesus said, “but he who does the Will of the Father in Heaven.”  He who does the will of my Father that is in Heaven, okay well that’s profound; we will look into that in a few.  Let’s continue in Matthew starting back in vs. 22 “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

So immediately from these scriptures we can, with all certainty, say that one who is chosen will be doing the will of their Father in Heaven.  They will not be lawless because the called are the people who have not been chosen.  They are the ones going to be saying, “Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?”  We can also say with certainty that certain individuals who say, “Lord, Lord” believing that they know Him and will hear, “Depart from me.”  This is a scary thought to think that there are people out there proclaiming to be saved Christians that are deceived and lost going to hell.

Let us keep diving deep, we are going to jump into 1 John 3:4-41:

“Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. 5 And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. 6 Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. 7 Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 8 But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. 9 Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.”

From these scriptures, we learn that if we live in Christ that we, in fact, will not sin.  What did that just say, that children of God will not sin?  Oh yes, you heard that correctly, but those who continue in their sin do not know Him or understand Him.  So you mean like I can’t sin freely if I’m a Christian?  Well God will understand me, He will be ok with it.  I am sorry to say that it’s all spelled out right here in black and white, “But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning.”  Jesus goes on to say that, “Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them.”  So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 1 John 3:10 “So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil…”  Okay, so you mean to tell me I will know, according to this passage the children of God from children of the devil and how will I know this?  Let’s look in Matthew 7:15-20

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”

So to reflect the life of a chosen child of God we can see here in 1st John we must have fellowship with the Father and His Son (1:6), walks/abides in the light (1:7; 2:10), confesses his sins (1:9), keeps His commandments (2:5; 3:22, 24), loves his brother (2:10; 3:14), knows God, the Father—the One from the beginning (2:13, 14; 4:6, 7), has overcomes the evil one (2:13, 14), is strong (2:14), does the will of God (2:17), confesses Jesus as the Son of God, and believe him to be the Christ (2:23; 4:15; 5:1), does righteousness (2:19; 3:7), purifies himself just as Christ is pure (3:3), is receiving what he asks for from the Father (3:22), does what is pleasing to Him (3:22), abides in Him (3:24), loves [others] (4:7), overcomes the world (5:4), and has the Son and life (5:12).

And what we must not do is this: walk in darkness (1:5; 2:11), claim to be sinless (1:8), claim to have never sinned (1:10), hate his brother (2:9, 11; 3:15), loves the world (2:15), deny that Jesus is the Christ thereby denying the Father and the Son (2:22), and commits sin and acts of lawlessness (3:4, 6, 8).

This contrast is overwhelmingly apparent.  A true child of God, a chosen one that walks in the light does not sin.  A child that is of the devil walks in darkness and lives in sin. John has only two categories.  There is no level or rating system to the Christian life.  There are only two categories for people: children of God and children of the devil.  My message title is this; Does Our Life Reflect That of a Chosen One?  After you have read this commentary along with excerpts from the Word of God, I think you yourself can answer that.  If your answer is no, then I would encourage you to make a decision to start making it so, for the kingdom of God is near.
