Dear Lord, Are You There?

Are you going through any struggles in your life?  Do you wonder if God sees your situation, or is He too busy?  In our walk as a Christian, we often get complacent with what goes on around us and often lose ourselves to our own fears and doubt, we worry, we stress, we fight, and argue, but do we realize that our Lord is always there for us?  He is watching us contend with all this weight the world tries to throw at us.  We start off in today’s lesson diving right into Psalms 139:7-12

“7 I can never escape from your Spirit!  I can never get away from your presence!  8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.  9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, 10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.  11 I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night—12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.  To you the night shines as bright as day.  Darkness and light are the same to you.  13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

What this scripture tells me is that God is omnipresent.  For those who don’t know what omnipresent is here is the definition: Omnipresence or ubiquity is the property of being present everywhere.  We see in a few other scriptures it speaking to the same effect.  In Proverbs 15:3 The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.

We also read in Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

Also in Job 34:21 For God watches how people live; he sees everything they do.”

These scriptures bring me to the conclusion that God is in fact everywhere and sees all things.  He knows all our situations as well as what’s going to happen.  He indeed is the planner and maker of our lives.  If our Lord is around us all the time then we should take advantage of that and speak to Him in everything we do.  He sees when we are depressed, sad, and angry.  We can come to Him at any time.  Pray in all situations because He is right there listening with open ears.  He actually is brooding over us, we read in Deuteronomy 32:11 “Like an eagle that rouses her chicks and hovers over her young, so he spread his wings to take them up and carried them safely on his pinions.”

We also read in Psalm 17:8 Guard me as you would guard your own eyes.  Hide me in the shadow of your wings.”

These scriptures paint a picture of a God that truly loves us and cares about us so much so that He is always available to us and is constantly protecting us from the harms of the devil.  The Lord wants to be injected into our inner-most being.  His heart is to bless us with His love and compassion.  The life of a Christian is a battle and when we walk we are stepping out into the battlefield.  Our Lord is aware of all situations and can and will guide us if we allow Him.  Our problem is we are too prideful and stubborn.  We know what to do and how to fix situations.  We have to die to our flesh and allow God to be God, allow the Lord Jesus to be our North Star.  What we need to do is keep our eyes fixed on Him.  Allow the Holy Spirit to be our rudder and steer us on the path that God has for us.  God does have our path laid out and I get it, at times we want to just take our own path because it’s seemingly easier.  Come to find out that our own path leads to destruction, so our safest bet is to throw in all our chips on Jesus.  Follow Him and serve Him because God is our omnipresent God, always watching even when we derail ourselves and if we give it our best, all we have, He will be faithful to pick us up.

As we continue on in Psalms 139:13-1813 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

King David understands God, he knows He is an omnipresent all-seeing God that’s love for us is deeper than the deepest parts of the ocean.  His love is agape love, it is compassionate love, a helping love, a love that cares so much that we can’t even fathom. God knit us together piece by piece.  He has our lives planned out day by day and they are recorded in His personal journal.  Every single moment was laid out before we were born.  I don’t know about you, but for me, this is the greatest news I could receive that we have a God that is for one always present seeing, helping, leading, and two that He personally knit me together and has all my days planned.  That actually means that one day I will be in His presence, so with all that said, who cares about what happens to me here on this planet.  We should be jumping for joy to do His will knowing these facts.

Wouldn’t it be easier to follow Jesus and do His will if we didn’t set up our lives according to our own wants, needs, and desires?  If we plan our life according to our own lusts that we are seeking then in no way will we be truly doing the will of our Father in Heaven.  The Bible says in 1 John 2:15-16 “15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.”

We as the handcrafted masterpieces, created in our mother’s womb by God, are supposed to be serving His only begotten Son Jesus, who was sent here so that we might live in and through Him.  Don’t you think we owe it to Him to do His will, to spread the Good News informing the world that He is alive and seated at the right hand of the Father?  This world is not just our own personal playground for only our enjoyment.  He does have requirements for us if we wish to get into heaven.

Like here in John 3:34-36 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit.35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands. 36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

I say this to the body of Christ because we are one body with many parts and all have a different role to play in the Great Commission.  If God took so much time as to personally knit us together, if God has carefully planned out our lives day by day and has written it in His book, if God watches over us in everything we do and went as far as to send His Son to die for us so His blood would cover our sins making us worthy to be in His presence, if God did all that then what do you think He did it for?

Did He just do it so He can watch the world be disobedient?  Did He do it just for kicks like this will be a fun project for today?  No is the answer.  He did it so He could see just who will love Him so much that they would die to themselves and give their lives to Him denying their own desires and seeking to do His will.

Let finish up Psalms 139:19-24:

19 O God, if only you would destroy the wicked!
    Get out of my life, you murderers!
20 They blaspheme you;
    your enemies misuse your name.
21 Lord, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you?
    Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you?
22 Yes, I hate them with total hatred,
    for your enemies are my enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 Point out anything in me that offends you,
    and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

David, in his own words, hates evil and wants nothing to do with it.  He is seen here pleading to God to remove it from around Him.  You can hear his passion when he asks God to test his heart and point out anything that offends Him.  He is earnestly seeking God wanting to please Him.  This should be our hearts as proclaimed Christians.  Are we asking God to test our hearts?  Are we wanting to steer clear of evil?  Are we wanting to do His will because remember, He is always watching?  His thoughts of us are innumerable like the grains of sand.  It’s time to put our selfish ambitions to the side and rise up and be the warrior for Christ.  Mount up with your armor of God and get out on the battlefield.  There are countless souls out there in a spiritual battle and it’s up to us the Children of God to defeat Satan and stop him from stealing souls.

Make your Heavenly Family proud for they are watching!
