Then you will be prepared to wash others. John 7:37
According to scriptures, we all are sinful, spotted, and dirty. This is what our flesh consists of, worldly filth. We need to recognize that we need a Savior and through Him and Him alone we can be washed, become spotless, and be saved from our own wickedness. So, we can spend eternity with God and Jesus in Heaven.
Our sole mission on this earth is the Great Commission and that is to spread the Gospel to all nations. First order of business is we need to be cleansed or washed with the living Word of God. The Bible is like the only cleaning agent that exists that removes the stains set in by sin. The Bible says in Isaiah 1:18:
“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.
It is He who makes us spotless. He takes away our stains and makes us clean. Our Christian walk is a growing process. You see Jesus is the living water as given as an example in Jeremiah 17:7-8:
7 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. 8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
We are like the seed and our heart is like the soil if our heart is not going to be receptive than we can’t get roots to the living water.
We read in Matthew 13:3-9 and Matthew 13:18-23:
Matthew 13:3-9:
3 He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one:
“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. 4 As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. 5 Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. 8 Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! 9 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”
Matthew 13:18-23:
18 “Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: 19 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. 20 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 21 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. 22 The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. 23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
If we apply this parable to our own heart, we see our seed needs to be planted in the good fertile soil. We need to study our scripture, understand and obey them. Then our roots will start to grow and reach down to the stream of life, which is Jesus. When we tap into that well and have an obedient attitude, we will be ready to spread the gospel.
The living water to us is like an engine having the best synthetic oil running through it and getting changed on a weekly basis. That engine inside will be clean, well lubricated, all parts running smooth and that engine will be running at its top performance.
Well, the same goes for us if let that living water wash us from the inside out, we too can be running at our best performance which is the ideal way to spread the Good News to all the nations fulfilling the Great Commission.
Think about this, we are in a sin-filled world with the majority of its inhabitants serving Satan and covered in the filth sin. In reality, we will get filthy, dusty, and dirty on a daily basis just being out in our mission field. The Good News is that the living water that we consume washes us as we go. It’s like a 24/7, 365-day washing. It’s a consistent cleanse. We need to stay focused on our mission. We need to stay focused on our obedience and walk in the sunny rain shower with arms wide open, letting the cleansing power of Jesus’ living water cleanse us consistently. If we walk around all dirty, broken, and defeated filled with sin and regret beaten down by the devil, we will be a useless vessel for God.
We are to become born again.
John 3:1-21:
1 There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. 2 After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”
3Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
4 “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”
5 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. 7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”
9 “How are these things possible?” Nicodemus asked.
10 Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? 11 I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe our testimony. 12 But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants. ”
You see when we do this we are turning 180 degrees and going in a different direction, a direction towards what pleases God. Our decision to do this means we will have accepted Jesus as our Savior and we will be dedicating our lives to Him as an obedient servant to Christ. From that point in your Christian life, we are to walk in that living water even splashing and diving in. Let it consume you. I heard these lyrics from an amazing song that puts this into perspective:
In Over My Head (Crash Over Me)
Bethel Music
I have come to this place in my life
I’m full but I’ve not satisfied
This longing to have more of You
And I can feel it my heart is convinced
I’m thirsty my soul can’t be quenched
You already know this but still
Come and do whatever You want to
I’m standing knee deep but I’m out where I’ve never been
I feel You coming and I hear Your voice on the wind
Would you come and tear down the boxes that I have tried to put You in
Let love come teach me who You are again
Would you take me back to the place where my heart was only about You
And all I wanted was just to be with You
Come and do whatever You want to
And further and further my heart moves away from the shore
Whatever it looks like, whatever may come I am Yours
And further and further my heart moves away from the shore
Whatever it looks like, whatever may come I am Yours
Then You crash over me and I’ve lost control but I’m free
I’m going under, I’m in over my head
And You crash over me, I’m where You want me to be
I’m going under, I’m in over my head
Whether I sink, whether I swim
Oh it makes no difference when I’m beautifully in over my head
And whether I sink, whether I swim
It makes no difference when I’m beautifully in over my head
I’m beautifully in over my head
Beautifully in over my head
As you travel down this Christian road, the Bible says it will be a narrow road, a difficult path. The devil will be shooting all sorts of fiery arrows at you, but don’t get dismayed because you are more than a conqueror, you hold the most powerful family name ever to exist and that is a Christian. You have the living water of Christ flowing on the inside and you are on a God ordained path of which His preparation were not in vain. So today, remember when the fiery trails come, when you feel filthy from all the world’s sin rubbing all over you, let that sunny rain shower wash it all away in Jesus’ name.
