IN THE SILENCE

Where are you, Lord?

Have You Ever Been in the Silence?

I’m not talking about the quiet of a room or the stillness of an early morning. I’m talking about that hallway silence — the kind that happens when life feels paused, when you don’t know what’s next, and you’re just… waiting. Waiting on direction. Waiting on clarity. Waiting on the Lord.

If you’ve ever been in that place, let me assure you — I have, too. With 100% certainty, I can tell you: I’ve been in that hallway. I’ve been in the waiting. I’ve sat in the silence more times than I can count.

And through those seasons, I’ve learned a few things — things I believe can help bring comfort and perspective when you find yourself there, too. The hallway may be silent, but it’s not empty. God is there always.

You see, the Lord has a plan and a purpose for every single one of us.

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”

And Proverbs 16:9 echoes it beautifully:

“We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.”

These scriptures show us a powerful truth: We’re often busy making our own plans — we map out our futures, we schedule our dreams, we calculate our next move. That’s just human nature. Ultimately, God is the One who directs our steps. His plan prevails.

Sometimes, we take a wrong turn — in our marriage, with our children, in our careers or finances. We start out with good intentions, but somewhere along the way, things start to unravel. The path darkens, doors seem to vanish, and we find ourselves standing in that hallway again — overwhelmed, confused, maybe even hopeless.

You may feel like the weight you’re carrying is your own doing — and maybe it is. But here’s the truth: God is still in control.

Romans 8:28 gives us hope:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Even when the outcome doesn’t seem to be in our favor… even when we don’t understand… even when the silence is deafening — God is working. He’s teaching. He’s molding. He’s preparing.

Picture this:

You’re carrying an oversized load — too heavy, too much. You’re straining under the weight of pressure, anxiety, fear, and uncertainty. You feel like you’re walking down a long, endless hallway with no door, no light, and no end in sight.

But imagine Jesus right beside you. Not ahead, not behind — right beside you. Gently reaching out, saying, “Give it to Me. You were never meant to carry this alone.”

That’s the image? Hold on to it.

Because no matter how silent the hallway, how heavy the burden, or how uncertain the future — God is with you. He never wastes time, even while we are in the wait.

The Hallway Is Holy Ground — Even When It Doesn’t Feel Like It

We all need to remember something critical:
Just because we’ve said a prayer, been baptized, and now call ourselves Christians — it does not make us immune to attacks from Satan and his demons.

In fact, the moment you gave your life to Christ, you became a threat to the enemy. You were placed on his HVT list — High Value Target. That’s why the battle often intensifies after salvation, not before.

1 Peter 5:8 warns us:

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

And guess when he loves to strike?
In the hallway.

When you’re waiting.
When you’re uncertain.
When you’re sitting in silence, trying to figure out what’s next.
That’s when he pounces with doubt, anxiety, fear, lies — thoughts that sneak in like a virus and try to take root in your heart and mind.

This is why that image we talked about earlier — Jesus walking beside you, ready to carry your burden — is so vital to hold on to.

Because this battle we’re in? It starts in the mind.

Romans 12:2 reminds us:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

It’s the renewing of our minds that keeps us strong in the silence.
The world runs on stress, panic, and striving — but we, as children of God, don’t walk by the patterns of the world. We walk by faith.

We have a Savior who not only died for our sins but now stands before the Father as our advocate — our ambassador. He fights for us even when we feel weak. The silence you’re experiencing? That’s not God abandoning you. That’s God working behind the scenes — preparing the path, opening the right door, shaping you for what’s next.

So breathe.

Rest in that truth.

Don’t let the silence shake your faith — let it strengthen your faith.

Satan wants to use the hallway to discourage you, to isolate you, to make you believe God has forgotten you. But here’s the truth: he is powerless in the name of Jesus.

So fight back.

Give him exactly what he’s looking for — nothing.
Don’t entertain his lies. Don’t engage with his fear tactics. Don’t speak his language.

Instead, call on the name that carries all authority:

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”Romans 10:13

And when you feel weary, when you feel like you’re carrying a load that’s far too heavy to bear — remember the invitation Jesus gives us in Matthew 11:28–30:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

So when you’re in the hallway — in the silence, in the waiting, in the in-between — don’t panic. Don’t stress. Don’t give in to fear.

Call on His name.
Lean into His promises.
Renew your mind.
And remember: Jesus’s hand is outstretched — just reach out and take hold.

You are not alone in the hallway. You’re just in a holy place of preparation.
